Is it because Mike Tramp, before forming Freak of Nature, was the singer of the somewhat famous band White Lion? Did people who wanted to discover new bands turn their back on FON because of some preconceived notions regarding their singer? After nearly 10 years of its release, I am still baffled: how can such an incredibly deep, cerebral, and poignant album go unnoticed by the masses? It was still cool to read Mike's liner notes about the history of FON, which he called 'the best band of his.
Mike released his solo album Capricorn and then this Outcasts CD in 1998.īut because the songs on it weren't composed as an album, there is no real sense of unity between them. Unfortunately they did not get the support they deserved and FON broke up in 1996. Too bad cause those two albums (s/t and Gathering of Freaks) were the highpoints of his career. Outcasts, which would be wise to title 'Outtakes', came out when Mike Tramp made an effort to have it released Stateside after his first two FON albums never seeing the light of day. Although you may think that Outcasts is Freak of Nature's third album, it is important to note that vocalist Mike Tramp released this compilation CD after his debut solo CD.
They made a fatal error - Kaitlyn can feel. But somehow, somewhere, something went wrong. She was made to be the ultimate soldier, with no emotions or family ties. I loved this book! It was everything I was hoping it would be.Freak of Nature tells the story of Kaitlyn, a young girl who was moment ago on deaths door, only to find that she is now a cyborg. But I am glad to say that is not the case. I was left disappointed when I finished the book and so I was a bit worried that this book would be the same. You see I had had recently read another book by Crane, Eternal Youth and I have to say I didn't love it. I'm going to start off by saying that I started this book with a bit of trepidation.
However, the record also does not entirely sellout and scream alt-rock bandwagon jumper present and accounted for either. The issue, however, for Freak of Nature was that Mike was associated with the 80's 'glam' scene, and by the mid-90s this scene was the farthest thing from cool on Earth.With Freak Of Nature's debut album being released in 1993, you can imagine that it doesn't sound very close to Mike's old band, White Lion. While I usually have a great disdain for melodic rock musicians that tried the grunge cool aide, this album is somewhere near that happy medium of 80's pop-metal and 90's grunge rock. When White Lion finally decided to call it a career in 1991, Mike Tramp decided to move in another musical direction and recruited Dennis Chick, Jerry Best, Johnny Haro, and Kenny Korade to form a more alt-rock band named Freak Of Nature.
